Q1. What are the foam pieces in the bottom of my double-hung window?
The foam pieces in your window are used to ensure a tight seal, giving the unit a high level of performance, including improved energy efficiency, draft reduction, and noise insulation.
Q2. Can I paint my vinyl windows?
We do not suggest painting your vinyl products as this can interfere with the material’s integrity and will void your warranty.
Q3. Can I apply a window tint to my products?
We do not suggest adding a tint to your window glass because it may damage the seal, reduce thermal efficiency, and void your warranty.
Q4. My oil-rubbed bronze handles are discoloured.
Oil-Rubbed Bronze is a living finish that will develop its own unique patina with use. This hardware is actually a dark bronze finish over copper. The intent is that the outer finish will wear, allowing the copper to show through. More use equals more wear, thus a “living finish.” This colour change is a normal part of the hardware’s aging process and does not affect functionality.
Q5. Is the door panel under the sweep finished?
No, the door panel under the sweep is not finished. This section is not exposed to weather or visible surfaces, so finishing is unnecessary, and leaving it unfinished does not impact durability or performance.
Q6. What do you recommend to clean the glass?
Use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution (or make your own with one part vinegar to 10 parts water), and apply to a soft, clean lint-free microfiber cloth or paper towel. Or you may use an ammonia-free glass cleaner such as Windex (clear liquid) or Sparkle (purple liquid). Do not use glass cleaners that are ammonia- or alcohol-based as they may leave streaks, produce a residue, or attract dust and moisture. Always clean gently to avoid scratching the glass or damaging seals.
Q7. How do I match the finish of my fiberglass entry door to the other wood elements in my home?
There are two finishing options to complement other wood elements in your home. You may choose from six pre-finished stain colours or order a Pella Entry Door Finishing Kit available in five colours. Before applying stain, lightly sand and clean the surface to ensure proper adhesion. Follow the instructions in the Pella Entry Door Owner’s Manual for best results and expected colour match.
